When should I book my newborn session?

I book a limited number of sessions each month so each client receives my personal attention. To ensure your desired session time, please contact me as soon as you know you would like to book a newborn session.  I will pencil your due date onto my calendar upon booking.  You will then contact me when your baby arrives to schedule your session.

When will my session take place?

I prefer to photograph newborns when they are less than two weeks old, with the ideal range between 3-10 days.  This is when babies are sleepiest and easiest to photograph.

My baby is already born.  Is it too late to schedule a newborn session?

Not at all.  While I generally book newborn sessions many months in advance, I usually have a spot here and there to schedule you in.  I am always happy to photograph older newborns with the understanding that it may not be possible to achieve the type of images that work with a very young newborn such as some swaddling poses.

Where will my newborn session take place?

Usually newborn sessions will take place in your home so we can capture lifestyle photographs as well.

How long will my newborn session last?

Newborn sessions are anywhere one to three hours long.  With babies, we need time to stop and let them feed or fall asleep again.

What can I expect from my session?

I like to do half of the session or more as lifestyle or documentary style images. The others will be traditional posed images of your newborn- using swaddles, fabrics, buckets, and more.  When I arrive at your house I will assess the lighting and determine the best locations for photos.  The baby’s needs then dictate the flow of the session.

What can I do to help my session go smoothly?

The number one thing you can do is try to keep your newborn awake for an hour prior to the session.  Also it is very important that you feed your baby just prior to my arrival or just upon my arrival while I set up.  If you are breastfeeding, it is best to keep a bottle of expressed milk on hand for use during the session.  Pacifiers are also extremely helpful for allowing me to calm your baby during the session.  These are all ways we can keep the baby calm and sleepy during the shoot.  Other than that, just relax and I will do all the work.

Do you include family photos with a newborn session?

Yes, I love including these in the session.  If you are uncomfortable with being photographed, I can use just your hands or have your faces blurred out while focusing on the baby.

What should we wear?

Simple is best.  If you have special outfits you would like your newborn to wear, please choose a maximum of two.  Numerous clothing changes can be disruptive to newborns.  I recommend that the rest of the family wear clothing that coordinates without matching exactly.  Children should wear clothes that they like and in which they are comfortable, although it is generally best to avoid busy patterns and logos.  I’m happy to work with you to select clothing for your session, and will also accommodate clothing changes if you’d like a variety of looks.

Do you bring props to the session?

Yes, if I have a prop that will go with the look your going with.  You can also request specific props that you have seen from images on my site.  Also, I provide many colors and textures of swaddles- so no need to have any swaddles on hand or need to buy any.   Please let me know if you have any personal items you’d like to incorporate.

Do you photograph in both color and black and white?

Yes, just let me know if you are interested in this option.

How long do you retain the digital negatives for my images?

Any unordered images will be deleted six months after your order is finalized.
